This project was to develop the training for the rollout if IBM's rPOS point of sale systems and the Yantra Warehousing software across all Circuit City stores.
For the rPOS training I worked with 3 other Instructional Designers. Together we developed the rPOS User Guide, Job Aids, PowerPoint slide decks for 2 days of Instructor Lead Training, and a set of over 200 micro e-learning simulations as Show Me, Guide Me, Try Me self learning modules.
For the implementation, as one of three lead trainers I ran a week long Train-The-Trainer with 55 field trainers who would travel to each store across the U.S. for two days of Instructor Lead Training at each location. We monitored the team while simultaneously performing the training at selected locations.
My task for the Yantra training was to develop the capability of walking students through the tasks they would be performing with the software and hand held scanners with a hands on experience. We decided to load the actual Yantra software onto a laptop and build a data table of starting data for the software. A programmer developed an app that would erase the Yantra data and refresh the Yantra database with the custom data table data. This allowed a reset with a simple click of the app on the desktop.
Now that we had our prototype laptop we had to copy it for 55 trainers, and 6 mobile classrooms. We used Norton Ghost to copy the laptop and clone it to over 160 laptops. We then set each clone to a unique IP address for the hand held scanner to connect to. We completed our development with the creation of a Yantra workbook consisting of bar codes and descriptions of typical store items that went along with the developed course activities.
